Welcome to PS 79M/ Dr. Edmund Horan School's New Website!
PS 79M/ Dr. Edmund Horan School provides educational, vocational, and behavior support programs for close to 250 middle and high school students who are on the autism spectrum, have significant cognitive delays, are severely emotionally challenged, sensory impaired and/or multiply disabled. We currently serve the largest English Language Learners population, approximately 50% of our students are in either bilingual classrooms or receiving English as a Second Language (ESL) Services, within our district. At PS 79M/ Dr. Edmund Horan School we strive to create a safe, supportive, and nutruring environment for students and other stakeholders. We respect and celebrate the individuality, diversity, and contributions of each member. We are commited to promote high expectations and standards for our students through optimum services in the following areas: transition outcomes, vocational training and placement, integration of technology, classroom curriculum, and English Language Learners services. In addition, we seek to improve student outcomes by providing the following to staff: professional development on the school and district level, collaboration, modeling, and problem solving. Ultimately, we aim to work as a cohesive team to enable our constituents to reach their highest potential as valued members of our school community. Our ultimate goal is to celebrate the learning experiences of the past, meet the challenges of the present, and embrace the unkowns of the future as we continue on this journey.
